MnTBAP is a cell-permeable synthetic manganic porphyrin complex that functions as a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic and a potent peroxynitrite scavenger. It exhibits broad-spectrum antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties by reducing various reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), including superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, and peroxynitrite. This compound has been investigated in preclinical models for its protective effects against oxidative stress and inflammation in conditions such as chronic renal failure, cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury, lung contusion, and Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. Its anti-inflammatory actions also involve the upregulation of Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor Type 2 (BMPR-II) and inhibition of NFκB, p38, and SAPK/JNK signaling pathways.
