Overview

MobiPrep is a low-volume, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based osmotic laxative used for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy or other medical procedures requiring a clean colon. It is a combination product containing macrogol 3350 (PEG), anhydrous sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, ascorbic acid, and sodium ascorbate. The mechanism of action involves the osmotic effect of PEG and sodium sulfate, which retain water in the intestinal lumen, thereby increasing stool volume and stimulating peristalsis. The inclusion of ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate provides an additional osmotic load, which allows for effective bowel cleansing with a significantly reduced volume of fluid (typically 2 liters) compared to traditional 4-liter PEG solutions. It is primarily developed and marketed in South Korea by Taejoon Pharmaceutical.
