MOD-101 is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein that was developed by OPKO Biologics (formerly Prolor Biotech) for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. It was designed as a long-acting version of etanercept, utilizing proprietary Carboxyl Terminal Peptide (CTP) technology to extend the protein's half-life and reduce injection frequency. The molecule consists of the extracellular portion of the human tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) fused to the Fc portion of human IgG1. By acting as a decoy receptor, MOD-101 binds to and neutralizes tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), preventing it from triggering inflammatory pathways. The development of MOD-101 was discontinued by the company around 2010-2011.
