MOD-1101 was a discontinued long-acting recombinant protein therapeutic developed by OPKO Biologics for the treatment of atherosclerosis. The drug utilized OPKO's proprietary Carboxyl Terminal Peptide (CTP) technology, which involves the attachment of CTP sequences to a target protein to stabilize it in the bloodstream and significantly extend its half-life. MOD-1101 was designed as an extended-release version of Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), the major protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). By supplementing ApoA1, the therapy was intended to promote reverse cholesterol transport and modulate lipid metabolism to prevent the progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The program was active in OPKO's pipeline from approximately 2016 to 2020 before being discontinued.
