Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified Acarbose Hexasaccharide is a chemically altered form of acarbose, which itself is a complex oligosaccharide and an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor. Acarbose and its derivatives act by competitively inhibiting enzymes such as pancreatic alpha-amylase and membrane-bound intestinal alpha-glucosidases (including glucoamylase, sucrase, maltase, and isomaltase), thereby delaying the breakdown of complex carbohydrates into absorbable monosaccharides in the small intestine. This results in reduced postprandial blood glucose levels. Modified forms may be developed to alter pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic properties for research or therapeutic purposes[1][6]. The primary indication for this class is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
