Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified alcohol-free beer is a beverage designed to improve insulin resistance, glycemic control, and gut microbiome in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) or prediabetes who are overweight or obese. It is an alcohol-free beer where regular carbohydrates, specifically maltose, have been largely eliminated and replaced with isomaltulose (16.5 g/day) and resistant maltodextrin (5.28 g/day). Isomaltulose is a disaccharide with delayed digestion and absorption, resulting in a low glycemic index, and contributes to cardiometabolic benefits, glycemic control, macronutrient oxidation, and improved lipid profiles. Resistant dextrin, a glucose polymer, is incompletely hydrolyzed and absorbed in the small intestine, with the majority fermented in the colon, leading to beneficial effects on glycemic status, systemic inflammation, body weight, and body composition. The combination of these ingredients aims to provide a synergistic beneficial effect on glucose homeostasis and positively impact the gut microbiota.
