Modified Ara h 2 is a recombinant hypoallergen being developed by Desentum for the treatment of peanut allergy. It consists of a genetically modified version of the Ara h 2 protein, which is considered the most potent and clinically relevant allergen in peanuts. The modification is designed to significantly reduce the protein's ability to bind to immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies, thereby minimizing the risk of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis during administration. Simultaneously, the protein retains its T-cell epitopes, which are essential for stimulating the immune system to develop long-term tolerance (desensitization). This approach aims to provide a safer and more effective alternative to traditional subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) using crude peanut extracts.
