Overview

Modified Baihu Tang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula derived from the classic Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction). The base formula consists of Gypsum fibrosum, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Radix Glycyrrhizae, and Semen Oryzae Sativae. Modifications typically involve adding herbs like Radix Rehmanniae or Radix Trichosanthis to enhance its heat-clearing and fluid-engendering properties. It is primarily used to treat conditions characterized by "excessive heat," such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), acute febrile diseases, and inflammatory conditions. Its mechanism involves regulating glucose metabolism, reducing systemic inflammation, and modulating the gut microbiota. Pharmacological studies suggest it acts by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and activating metabolic pathways like AMPK.
