Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) formulation is an oral small molecule therapeutic developed by Merdury Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). The drug is produced using the proprietary StackDose platform, which utilizes 3D printing technology to create a formulation with optimized solubility and bioavailability. EGCG, a polyphenol naturally found in green tea, has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties in preclinical studies, suggesting potential to reduce muscle damage and improve motor function in DMD patients. The program was granted Orphan Drug Designation and Rare Pediatric Disease Designation by the US FDA in 2024 and is currently in preclinical development.
