Overview
Modified Gegen Qinlian Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula derived from the classic Gegen Qinlian Decoction, originally described in the *Shanghan Lun*. It is being developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D), specifically for patients presenting with the 'dampness-heat' syndrome. The formula typically includes *Puerariae Lobatae Radix* (Gegen), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian), and *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao), with modifications tailored to clinical presentation. Its therapeutic effects are thought to be mediated by the modulation of intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and the repair of the intestinal mucosal barrier, potentially through the regulation of the C1orf106/CYTH-1/ARF6 signaling pathway to reduce intestinal permeability and inflammation.
