Overview
Modified Hyangsayukgunja-tang (MHYT) is a multi-component herbal medicine derived from traditional Korean medicine, specifically adapted from the classic Hyangsayukgunja-tang formula to treat gastrointestinal motility disorders and cancer-related symptoms. The formulation typically consists of a complex mixture of medicinal herbs, including *Panax ginseng*, *Atractylodes macrocephala*, *Poria cocos*, *Glycyrrhiza uralensis*, *Citrus reticulata*, and *Pinellia ternata*, often supplemented with additional herbs like *Crataegus pinnatifida* to enhance its prokinetic effects. MHYT exerts its therapeutic action by modulating the ghrelin system, specifically increasing levels of acylated ghrelin to stimulate appetite, and by interacting with serotonin receptors (5-HT3 and 5-HT4) to improve gastric accommodation and emptying. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of functional dyspepsia and cancer-related anorexia-cachexia syndrome (CACS), aiming to alleviate symptoms such as early satiety, postprandial bloating, and weight loss.
