Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Modified Jade Wind-Barrier formula (MJWB) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) botanical preparation developed by Hong Kong Baptist University for the prevention of the common cold, specifically in elderly individuals with a Qi-deficiency constitution. It is a five-herb modification of the classical Jade Wind-Barrier Powder (Yu Ping Feng San), incorporating Astragali Radix (Zhi Huangqi), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Atractylodes macrocephala (Baizhu), Nelumbinis Folium (Heye), and Chrysanthemum morifolium (Juhua). The formulation is administered as a herbal tea and is intended to modulate immune function and enhance constitutional resilience. It has been evaluated in a pragmatic randomized controlled trial (NCT05640570) to assess its effectiveness in reducing the incidence and recurrence of the common cold.
