Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified kidney nourishing basic formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), a condition characterized by the loss of normal ovarian function before age 40. The formula is designed based on the TCM theory of tonifying the kidney and nourishing the blood to restore ovarian reserve. It typically comprises a specific combination of medicinal herbs, including *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Cornus officinalis*, and *Cuscuta chinensis*. The therapeutic mechanism involves the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, leading to a reduction in serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels while increasing estradiol (E2) and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels. Additionally, the formula has been shown to inhibit granulosa cell apoptosis by modulating the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins and enhancing the expression of follicle-stimulating hormone receptors (FSHR) in ovarian tissues.
