Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified lanolin is an ultra-purified, medical-grade emollient and skin protectant derived from the wool of sheep (Ovis aries). It undergoes specialized refining processes to significantly reduce the levels of free lanolin alcohols, environmental pesticides, and detergent residues, resulting in a highly hypoallergenic and biocompatible substance. Modified lanolin acts primarily as a semi-occlusive barrier and humectant when applied topically. It mimics the lipid matrix of the stratum corneum, penetrating the upper layers of the skin to replenish essential lipids, lock in moisture, and accelerate the repair of the skin's natural barrier. It is widely used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations, most notably as a topical cream for soothing and healing sore, cracked nipples in breastfeeding mothers, as well as for treating diaper rash, dry skin, and minor skin irritations.
