The modified-process recombinant hepatitis B vaccine (mpHBV) is an investigational subunit vaccine developed by Merck & Co., Inc. as an optimized formulation of the existing RECOMBIVAX HB. It contains recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in yeast (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*). The primary modification involves the use of a 2X phosphate-containing aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate adjuvant (2XP), designed to enhance the consistency and immunogenicity of the vaccine compared to the standard formulation. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the prevention of hepatitis B virus infection in various populations, including neonates, healthy adults, and patients with renal insufficiency.
