Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified Si Ni San is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation being investigated by the Xi'an Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for post-polypectomy management in patients with colorectal polyps. Based on the classic Si Ni San formula, this modified version is designed to regulate the gut microbiota and reduce systemic inflammation. Clinical evaluation focuses on its ability to alter microbial diversity and composition (measured via 16S rRNA sequencing) and decrease levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α). The primary therapeutic goal is to restore intestinal homeostasis and reduce the risk of polyp recurrence following colonoscopic removal.
