Overview
Modified Simiao Yongan Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula derived from the classic Simiao Yongan Decoction, which traditionally consists of Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle), Scrophularia ningpoensis (figwort), Angelica sinensis (Chinese angelica), and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice). The modified formulation is being evaluated by the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), particularly in patients presenting with damp-heat toxins accumulation syndrome. It is administered orally as a decoction, often in combination with standard endovascular therapy and wound care. The therapeutic mechanism of Modified Simiao Yongan Decoction involves promoting wound healing, improving peripheral nerve damage, enhancing angiogenesis, and regulating inflammation and oxidative stress, potentially through pathways such as METTL14/BECN1 and NLRP3 inflammasome inhibition.
