Overview
Modified Wen-Shen Juan-Bi-Tang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Jiangsu Province Hospital of TCM for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). It is specifically indicated for patients presenting with the TCM syndrome of 'kidney deficiency and coldness in Du Meridian.' The formula is a variation of the classic Wen-Shen Juan-Bi-Tang, which is traditionally used to warm the kidneys, dispel cold, and alleviate joint pain and stiffness. Clinical evaluation of this modified formula, such as in the ChiCTR2000034142 trial, utilizes metabolomics to assess its efficacy in modulating metabolic pathways and reducing systemic inflammation compared to conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like celecoxib.
