Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified Xiang Bei Yang Rong Tang (XBYRT) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal decoction specifically formulated to manage cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and cognitive impairment in cancer survivors. Based on the classical Xiang Bei Yang Rong Tang formula, which traditionally tonifies Qi and Blood while addressing phlegm-dampness, this modified version is optimized for the physiological stressors following cancer treatment. It is hypothesized to work by modulating systemic inflammation, reducing oxidative stress, and improving mitochondrial function—pathways that are frequently dysregulated in patients suffering from persistent fatigue. The formulation is being evaluated in the HERBAL trial (NCT04104113) led by the National Cancer Centre Singapore to improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in survivors of breast and other cancers.
