Modified Xiaoyao Powder + Tianwang Buxin Dan + Wendan Decoction + Night Jiaoteng + Fushen is a multi-component Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal combination therapy being evaluated by Taipei Veterans General Hospital for the treatment of primary insomnia. The regimen consists of three classic TCM formulas: Modified Xiaoyao Powder (Jia Wei Xiao Yao San), which is traditionally used to soothe the liver and nourish blood; Tianwang Buxin Dan, aimed at nourishing the heart and calming the spirit; and Wendan Decoction, used to clear heat and transform phlegm. These are supplemented with the individual herbs Night Jiaoteng (Caulis Polygoni Multiflori) and Fushen (Poria cum Radix Pini) for their specific sedative and spirit-calming properties. In clinical trial protocols, this oral herbal mixture is administered twice daily and is often paired with auricular point stimulation (using magnetic beads at the Shenmen, heart, and brainstem points) to enhance therapeutic efficacy.
