Overview
Modified Yupingfeng nasal spray is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Teaching Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine specifically for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. It is a modified version of the classic Yu Ping Feng San (Jade Windscreen Powder), a formula renowned for its Qi-tonifying and surface-consolidating properties. The modification typically involves the addition of herbs like *Magnolia biondii* (Xinyi) and *Xanthium sibiricum* (Cangerzi) to target nasal congestion and discharge. Mechanistically, the spray is thought to alleviate allergic symptoms by regulating the immune system, specifically by restoring the balance between Th1 and Th2 cytokines, reducing the production of allergen-specific IgE, and inhibiting the infiltration of eosinophils and the release of inflammatory mediators in the nasal mucosa.
