Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Modified Zexie Decoction (MZXD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula derived from the classical Zexie Decoction. It is designed to address phlegm-dampness type conditions, particularly Stage I hypertension, and is known for its antihypertensive, lipid-lowering, and anti-inflammatory effects. MZXD acts through multi-component and multi-target mechanisms typical of TCM formulas. Recent studies indicate that it exerts therapeutic effects by regulating the gut-immune-kidney axis—modulating gut microbiota composition, increasing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), improving immune markers, enhancing renal function, and reducing proteinuria in patients with phlegm-dampness type hypertension[1]. The decoction’s mechanism involves modulation of metabolic pathways related to blood pressure regulation, inflammation reduction, lipid metabolism improvement, and immune system balance.
