Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Moduspert M is a finished pharmaceutical formulation marketed by Gynavista for the management of male infertility, particularly idiopathic oligoasthenozoospermia. It is a fixed-dose combination of clomifene citrate and melatonin. Clomifene citrate is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that acts as an antagonist at estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. By inhibiting the negative feedback of endogenous estrogens, it stimulates the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH), which collectively promote testosterone production and spermatogenesis. Melatonin is included for its potent antioxidant properties and its role as a melatonin receptor agonist, which helps neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the seminal plasma, thereby protecting sperm DNA and membranes from oxidative damage and improving overall sperm quality.
