Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Moexiprilat is the active metabolite of moexipril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of hypertension. Moexipril itself is a prodrug that is converted in the body to moexiprilat, which exerts its antihypertensive effects by inhibiting ACE. This inhibition prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, resulting in relaxation and dilation of blood vessels. Additionally, ACE inhibition leads to decreased aldosterone secretion and increased plasma renin activity. Moexiprilat also inhibits kininase II, reducing degradation of bradykinin—a vasodilator—further contributing to blood pressure reduction[3][6][8]. The primary indication for moexipril/moexiprilat is high blood pressure (hypertension), helping reduce risks associated with cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack[1][2].
