Overview

Mofesedine mesylate (HEC73518) is an orally bioavailable small molecule capsid assembly modulator (CAM) developed by Dongguan Chang'an Dongyangguang New Drug Research and Development (HEC Pharm) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It functions as a Class II core protein allosteric modulator (CpAM), which misdirects the assembly of the HBV core protein (HBcAg) into empty, non-genomic capsids. This mechanism effectively blocks the encapsidation of pregenomic RNA (pgRNA) and subsequent viral DNA synthesis, thereby reducing the production of infectious virions. Mofesedine is currently being evaluated in clinical trials, often in combination with nucleos(t)ide analogs, to achieve deeper viral suppression and move toward a functional cure for HBV.
