Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Molutrex is a branded topical solution containing 5% potassium hydroxide in purified water, marketed as a class IIa medical device for the local treatment of molluscum contagiosum and certain superficial warts. It acts as a strong keratolytic and caustic agent that disrupts the keratinized surface of molluscum lesions, triggering a localized irritant inflammatory response that stimulates host immune clearance of the molluscum contagiosum virus and leads to lesion resolution.[1][2][4][6] The product is applied once or twice daily directly to each lesion in adults and children over 2 years of age until erythema develops, and is not intended for use on mucous membranes, periocular skin, inflamed or eczematous areas, or in immunocompromised patients.[2][4][6]
