MolVirX is a preclinical-stage small molecule therapeutic developed by nanoigel, consisting of a dynamic mixture of carboxylated cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) derivatives. It is designed as a broad-spectrum antiviral agent with concurrent nephroprotective properties. The drug's mechanism of action involves targeting the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and specific RNA structures (aptamers) to inhibit viral replication. MolVirX has demonstrated activity against several viral pathogens, including the H1N1-09 strain of Influenza A, Newcastle disease virus (NDV), and the D52 strain of Infectious Bronchitis Virus (a coronavirus). Its nephroprotective effect is particularly relevant for nephropathogenic viral strains like IBV D52, which cause significant renal damage.
