mometasone

Mometasone is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itch), and vasoconstrictive properties. It is used to treat various inflammatory conditions including skin disorders (topical), allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps (nasal spray), and asthma (inhaled). Mometasone acts by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor in target cells. This leads to changes in gene transcription that suppress the production of pro-inflammatory proteins and mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The drug also reduces the activity of immune cells involved in inflammation like mast cells and eosinophils. Mometasone has a high topical-to-systemic activity ratio due to extensive hepatic metabolism and low systemic bioavailability when administered locally[3][5]. It was developed primarily for its potent local effects with minimal systemic side effects. Developed by Organon and manufactured by Merck.
