Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of mometasone furoate, a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory activity, and omalizumab, a recombinant DNA-derived humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to immunoglobulin E (IgE). Mometasone furoate acts by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators involved in allergic responses. Omalizumab works by binding to free IgE, preventing its interaction with the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) on mast cells and basophils, thereby reducing allergic inflammation. This combination is used as an add-on maintenance treatment for adults with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) who have an inadequate response to intranasal corticosteroids. Clinical trials have shown that the addition of omalizumab to background intranasal mometasone therapy significantly improves endoscopic scores, nasal congestion, sense of smell, and quality of life in patients with severe CRSwNP[1][2].
