Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Monacoline + berberine (Red Rise) is a preclinical-stage oral combination small molecule drug being developed by Mogon Pharmaceuticals. It is a modified oral-release tablet formulation combining monacoline, a statin-like compound derived from red yeast rice that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, and berberine, a plant-derived alkaloid with antidiabetic properties. The drug is primarily intended for cholesterol lowering by inhibiting the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis while providing additional metabolic benefits through its berberine component. The formulation is designed to improve the oral release profile of these active substances for enhanced therapeutic efficacy.
