Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Monal-LC is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product manufactured by Kaiser Pharmaceuticals. It contains two active ingredients: levocetirizine and montelukast. Levocetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that acts as a potent and selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist, effectively reducing symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and watery eyes. Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that binds to the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor CysLT1, thereby inhibiting the physiological actions of leukotriene D4, which include airway edema, smooth muscle contraction, and altered cellular activity associated with the inflammatory process. This combination is primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and the management of comorbid asthma.
