Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Monoacylglycerol oil (MAG oil) is an oral nutritional supplement, specifically an enriched sn-1(3)-MAG oil, developed by Nestlé. It is designed to enhance the absorption and delivery of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs), such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), to the circulatory system. This is particularly beneficial in individuals experiencing lipid malabsorption conditions, as the sn-1(3)-MAG structure is thought to require minimal digestion before crossing the gut barrier, thereby improving the bioavailability of these essential fatty acids. Clinical studies have investigated its tolerance and safety in healthy adolescents and its efficacy in humans with induced lipid malabsorption.
