Overview

Monoclonal anti-D immunoglobulin is a laboratory-produced antibody that specifically targets the RhD antigen on red blood cells. It is designed to prevent RhD isoimmunization in Rh-negative individuals exposed to Rh-positive blood, such as during pregnancy or transfusion, and may also be used in the treatment of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in Rh-positive patients. Unlike traditional polyclonal preparations derived from human plasma, monoclonal versions are produced using cell lines and offer a consistent supply with defined specificity. The mechanism of action involves binding to the RhD antigen on red blood cells, leading to their clearance and preventing an immune response against them[1][2][4][5]. Monoclonal products are under development or evaluation for these indications.
