Overview

Monoclonal antibody A33 is a murine IgG2a (and also available in humanized form) that specifically recognizes the human A33 antigen—a 43 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. This antigen is highly and homogeneously expressed in over 95% of primary and metastatic colorectal cancers but has limited expression in normal tissues, being largely restricted to colonic mucosa. Monoclonal antibody A33 binds to this cell-surface antigen on colon cancer cells and can be internalized by tumor cells. It has been used as a carrier for radioisotopes such as iodine-125 or iodine-131 for targeted radiotherapy of colorectal cancer. The drug was developed primarily for the treatment of colorectal cancer metastases[1][2][5][6].
