Monogin

Monogin is a gynecological antiseptic treatment available as a solution or vaginal suppository (ovule). Its primary active ingredient is polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB), a cationic polymer with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. Developed by Lo.Li. Pharma, Monogin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV), as a local antiseptic to prevent infections following surgical treatment of cervical lesions, and to promote the regression of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections. The drug works by electrostatically interacting with negatively charged microbial cell membranes, leading to membrane disruption and cellular death. Clinical evidence suggests that a single dose of Monogin is equivalent in efficacy to a seven-day course of clindamycin for bacterial vaginosis and significantly enhances the clearance of HPV when used as a long-term local treatment.
