A monospecific integrin αv antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to bind specifically to the αv (alpha-v) subunit of integrin receptors. Integrin αv is a component of several heterodimeric receptors (including αvβ1, αvβ3, αvβ5, αvβ6, and αvβ8) that play critical roles in cell adhesion, migration, and survival signaling. In oncology research, particularly in prostate cancer, αv-containing integrins are associated with tumor progression, chemotaxis, and immune evasion. These antibodies are often utilized in preclinical studies to investigate the inhibition of pathological signaling pathways such as c-myc/E2F and TGF-β. While monospecific αv antibodies have shown some efficacy in controlling tumor growth, they are frequently compared to bispecific antibodies (e.g., targeting both αv and α5β1) which may offer superior therapeutic outcomes by inducing target internalization and lysosomal degradation.
