Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a **combination vaccine** composed of a **monovalent avian influenza H7N9 virus-like particle (VLP)** and the **Matrix-M1 adjuvant**. The VLP mimics the native structure of H7N9 influenza virus but is non-infectious, delivering the hemagglutinin antigen to stimulate an immune response. The Matrix-M1 adjuvant is a nanoparticle-based immunostimulant made from *Quillaja saponaria* saponins, cholesterol, and phospholipids, enhancing both the humoral and cellular immune response. Matrix-M1 adjuvant acts by recruiting and activating antigen-presenting cells in local lymph nodes, broadening and deepening immune responses and providing antigen dose sparing[1][2][3][4][5]. The combination aims to achieve robust protection against avian H7N9 influenza, with the Matrix-M1 adjuvant boosting both antibody and T cell responses[5]. Developed primarily for pandemic prevention, this vaccine is used in clinical trials for influenza protection.
