Overview
Monovalent high-dose inactivated poliovirus type 2 vaccine (m-IPV2 HD) is an investigational vaccine developed by University Hospital, Ghent, specifically targeting poliovirus serotype 2. Unlike standard trivalent inactivated poliovirus vaccines (IPV) that contain types 1, 2, and 3, this formulation is monovalent and contains a higher dose of the type 2 antigen. It is designed to address the reappearance of Polio type 2 and support global eradication efforts by providing a potentially more cost-effective and targeted immunological response in infants and children, following safety evaluation in adults. The vaccine is administered via intramuscular injection and is currently in early-stage clinical testing to assess safety and reactogenicity.
