Overview
Monovalent oral polio vaccine type 1 (mOPV1) is a live-attenuated vaccine containing the Sabin strain of type 1 poliovirus. It is specifically formulated to provide immunity against type 1 poliovirus, which is the most common cause of paralytic polio outbreaks. Administered orally as a liquid, the vaccine replicates in the intestinal tract, inducing both mucosal (IgA) and systemic (IgG) immune responses that prevent the virus from causing central nervous system infection. mOPV1 is primarily utilized in supplemental immunization activities and outbreak response scenarios rather than routine immunization schedules. It has been prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is produced by several manufacturers, including PT Bio Farma, Haffkine Bio Pharmaceutical, and Panacea Biotec.
