Overview
Monovalent oral poliovirus vaccine type 2 (mOPV2) is a live attenuated biologic vaccine developed by GSK Biologicals in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). It contains the live attenuated Sabin strain (P712, Ch, 2ab) of type 2 poliovirus, propagated in MRC5 human diploid cells. The vaccine is primarily utilized in supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) to respond to outbreaks of circulating vaccine-derived type 2 poliovirus (cVDPV2), particularly following the global withdrawal of trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV). It works by inducing both systemic and mucosal immunity, thereby preventing the transmission and paralytic effects of the virus in the target population.
