Overview
Monovalent oral poliovirus vaccine type 3 (mOPV3) is a live attenuated vaccine derived from the Sabin poliovirus strain type 3. It is specifically designed to confer protection against type 3 poliovirus infection and prevent poliomyelitis. Administered orally, the vaccine contains the live attenuated Sabin-strain type 3 poliovirus, which replicates in the gut to stimulate both mucosal and systemic immunity. mOPV3 has been licensed since 2005 and is primarily deployed during mass immunization campaigns and for rapid response to type 3 poliovirus outbreaks. It is also a constituent of the WHO-prequalified bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV).
