Overview

Monovalent rAT is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF). It consists of a detoxified version of the Staphylococcus aureus alpha-hemolysin (alpha-toxin, Hla), which is a critical virulence factor that forms pores in host cell membranes, leading to cell death and tissue damage. The vaccine is designed to stimulate the production of neutralizing antibodies that bind to and inactivate the alpha-toxin, thereby preventing or reducing the severity of S. aureus infections, including skin and soft tissue infections and invasive disease. It has been evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials as both a standalone monovalent vaccine and as a component of a bivalent formulation alongside rLukS-PV.
