Overview
Montanide ISA-51 VG is a clinical-grade vaccine adjuvant developed by SEPPIC, designed to enhance the immunogenicity of therapeutic vaccines. It is a water-in-oil emulsion consisting of a highly purified mineral oil and a surfactant, mannide monooleate, which is derived from vegetable sources (VG). When mixed with aqueous antigens, it forms a stable emulsion that creates a depot at the injection site, facilitating the slow release of the antigen and the recruitment of antigen-presenting cells. This mechanism promotes both cellular (Th1) and humoral (Th2) immune responses. Montanide ISA-51 VG is extensively used in clinical trials for various cancers, including melanoma, prostate cancer, and HPV-associated malignancies, often in combination with peptide or protein antigens.
