MOPC-IL15 is a non-targeted control immunocytokine consisting of the MOPC-21 isotype control antibody fused to interleukin-15 (IL-15). It is primarily utilized in preclinical oncology research as a negative control to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tumor-targeted IL-15-based immunocytokines, such as GT-00AxIL15 (Gatipotuzumab-IL15). While MOPC-IL15 retains the immunostimulatory properties of IL-15—activating and expanding natural killer (NK) cells and CD8+ T cells through the IL-15 receptor complex—it lacks the variable regions necessary to bind specific tumor-associated antigens like TA-MUC1. This allows researchers to distinguish between the systemic effects of IL-15 and the therapeutic benefits provided by localized delivery to the tumor microenvironment. It is typically synthesized as a recombinant fusion protein and used to establish a benchmark for the therapeutic window and tumor-specific accumulation in murine models.
