Overview

MORAb-047 is a humanized IgG monoclonal antibody developed by Morphotek, a subsidiary of Eisai, in collaboration with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. It is designed as a biodefense countermeasure to neutralize botulinum toxin, the highly potent neurotoxin produced by the bacterium *Clostridium botulinum*. The antibody is engineered to bind specifically to the toxin, preventing it from entering nerve cells and inhibiting the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. By neutralizing the toxin, MORAb-047 aims to prevent or treat the descending paralysis characteristic of botulism. The program was part of a pipeline focused on biological weapon countermeasures and was last reported in the preclinical stage of development.
