MORAb-048

MORAb-048 is a fully human IgG monoclonal antibody developed by Morphotek (a subsidiary of Eisai) in collaboration with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. It is designed to target and neutralize Staphylococcus enterotoxin B (SEB), a potent superantigen produced by *Staphylococcus aureus*. SEB is recognized as a significant biothreat agent and a cause of severe food poisoning and toxic shock syndrome. By binding to SEB, MORAb-048 prevents the toxin from cross-linking MHC class II molecules and T-cell receptors, thereby inhibiting the massive release of pro-inflammatory cytokines that leads to systemic toxicity. The drug was advanced through preclinical development for indications in infectious diseases and biodefense.
