Overview

Morin is a naturally occurring polyphenolic flavonol found in various plants such as *Maclura pomifera* (Osage orange), *Maclura tinctoria*, and guava leaves. It exhibits a broad spectrum of biological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antitumoral, antihypertensive, antibacterial, hypouricemic (uric acid-lowering), and neuroprotective effects. Mechanistically, morin acts by modulating the activity of multiple enzymes and pathways; notably it inhibits xanthine oxidase (reducing uric acid synthesis) and urate anion transporter 1 (URAT1/SLC22A12) in the kidney to decrease uric acid reabsorption. Morin also inhibits amyloid formation by islet amyloid polypeptide and has been shown to interact with several signaling pathways relevant to inflammation and cell survival. Preclinical studies indicate low toxicity with chronic administration[2][3][4][5][6].
