Overview

Morinda officinalis polysaccharides (MOPs) are bioactive carbohydrate polymers extracted from the roots of *Morinda officinalis* How, a traditional Chinese medicinal plant known as Ba-Ji-Tian. These polysaccharides consist of complex structural forms, including inulin-type fructans and acidic polysaccharides composed of galacturonic acid, arabinose, and galactose. MOPs demonstrate a wide range of pharmacological activities, including anti-osteoporotic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and renoprotective effects. Their mechanism of action involves the modulation of the Gut-Kidney axis, where they reshape gut microbiota communities and activate PPARγ and GPCR signaling pathways to reduce systemic inflammation and renal fibrosis. Additionally, MOPs influence the BMP/Smads and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways to promote osteoblast differentiation and bone formation. They are being investigated for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD), osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, and infertility.
