Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Moringa oleifera seed extract is a botanical preparation derived from the seeds of the Moringa oleifera tree, native to South Asia and widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. The seeds are rich in fatty acids (notably oleic acid), proteins, and unique phytochemicals such as benzylglucosinolate and 4-(α-l-rhamnosyloxy) phenylacetonitrile[6][9]. Traditionally used for nutritional supplementation and folk medicine applications, moringa seed extracts have been investigated for their potential anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, hepatoprotective, antimicrobial (though weak against H. pylori), antihypertensive, antidiabetic effects as well as possible roles in water purification[2][3][6]. Preclinical studies suggest that bioactive compounds from the seeds may inhibit leukocyte activity and histamine release from mast cells (anti-inflammatory/immunosuppressive action)[3], but clinical evidence supporting specific therapeutic uses remains limited. Unlike leaf or bark extracts of Moringa oleifera—which show notable anticancer activity—seed extracts have shown little to no direct anticancer effect in cell-based studies[7].
