Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Morphine + mexiletine** denotes a two-drug analgesic regimen combining morphine, a full opioid agonist that is relatively selective for the mu-opioid receptor, with mexiletine, an orally active class IB antiarrhythmic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels. The combination label has appeared in a National Institutes of Health-sponsored phase 2 postamputation-pain study; however, the published randomized crossover study evaluated morphine, mexiletine, and placebo in separate treatment periods rather than as a fixed-dose co-formulation or simultaneous combination regimen.
